Dr. Nadera is a fellow of the Philippine Psychiatric Association. Dr. Dinah Palmera P. Nadera is actively involved in different mental health initiatives for government and civil society organizations in various capacities in the areas of training, research, policy, and legislation. She is also the founding president of the Foundation for Advancing Wellness, Instruction and Talents, an NGO focused on advocacy, research, and capacity building for the cause of mental health using arts as a key strategy. Dr. Nadera graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in B.S. Psychology, completed her medical education at the Virgen Milagrosa University in San Carlos City Pangasinan, and obtained degrees in Master of Science in Epidemiology (Public Health) from the University of the Philippines Manila and Master of International Mental Health from the University of Melbourne. She completed her residency training in psychiatry at the National Center for Mental Health.

Mental Health in the Philippines: Perception, Access, and Delivery (mhPAD) Map
Analyzing Mental Health in the Philippines: Perception, Access, and Delivery (mhPAD) is a research about how mental health is perceived by the general population and selected stakeholders, available mental health resources, how and when services are accessed and utilized, and the cost it takes to access and utilize the available mental health services. The information generated will contribute to the development and improvement of a rational and unified response to promote mental health and address mental health problems.

Policy Brief: Mental Health in Zamboanga del Norte
Zamboanga del Norte is a province in Mindanao which includes six municipalities that were randomly chosen to be part of the research sites of the mhPAD study. From the data collected, together with consultations with the provincial hospital’s lone psychiatrist, policy recommendations addressing gaps in the province’s mental health system are given, including: recognition of mental health as a public health priority through the development and strengthening of a provincial mental health program; strengthening of the operational management system in the provincial implementation of the mental health Medicine Access Program (MAP); and addressing and overcoming mental illness discrimination within communities.

Policy Brief: Mental Health in MIMAROPA
Region IV-B is a region composed of islands. The municipality of Gasan in Marinduque was randomly selected as one of the research sites of the mhPAD study. From the data collected, together with consultations with the Regional Mental Health Coordinator, policy recommendations addressing gaps in the region’s mental health system are given, including: improvement in the capacity of primary care workers to provide mental health services; building of access to telemedicine services; establishment of an acute psychiatric unit in the region; and increasing of mental health literacy.
